HKJC x FWD Insurance – RaceDay Visual Design

Visual Design | Merchandising, Logo & Print Materials

Design Brief

FWD Insurance hosts three major RaceDays each year with the Hong Kong Jockey Club, and I was tasked with creating a full design package using FWD’s signature green and orange. This included visual merchandising for RaceDay, direct mail (DM), and print posters to unify the campaign across all touchpoints.

Key Visual Design

To capture the energy and rhythm of RaceDay, I chose geometric elements as the core visual language, bringing a modern, dynamic feel to the event while aligning with FWD’s bold identity. Using the green of the racecourse to represent FWD’s signature green, paired with an energetic orange backdrop, the design visually conveys speed, momentum, and excitement while staying true to the brand.

This key visual system and logo design have continued to be used in subsequent FWD Champions Day campaigns, becoming a recognizable visual identity for the event. Its flexibility across print, digital, and environmental applications ensures consistency while allowing fresh adaptations each year. It is rewarding to see this design continue to bring a clear, cohesive identity to FWD Champions Day year after year.

Event print production

This was my first time leading the on-site event design for a large-scale project, and it was both a challenge and a milestone in my design career. I worked closely with the FWD and Hong Kong Jockey Club teams to bring the visual concept to life.

The booth design featured a dynamic and cohesive color palette: FWD’s signature orange as the main tone, dark green representing the Jockey Club, and rich brown symbolizing the strength and elegance of racehorses. To ensure strong brand alignment, I created a life-sized 1:1 logo installation for VIP guests to interact with and take photos.

To guide attendees through the event space, I used geometric triangle shapes as directional arrows, making the flow intuitive and visually striking. Additionally, I designed custom illustrations inspired by the FWD logo, adding a playful yet professional touch to the layout and bringing the branded space to life.

The final outcome was a visually unified and vibrant environment, balancing functionality with a strong sense of identity and energy.

Brochure Design

This print brochure was created as part of the complete branding package for FWD Champions Day 2021, hosted by the Hong Kong Jockey Club and FWD Insurance.

I applied FWD’s signature orange and green as the primary color palette to maintain strong brand identity, integrating it with dynamic geometric elements to reflect movement and competition. A key highlight was the use of check-box inspired motifs to create a structured, easy-to-navigate layout.

This brochure required the placement of dense racing data and statistics, alongside promotional visuals. I balanced this with a clear grid system, icon-based information hierarchy, and visual callouts that guided readers through the content intuitively.

Key Visual Design

As part of the extended campaign for FWD Champions Day, I was tasked with designing the visual backdrop and product display environment to support exclusive collectible figures for the event.

This installation demonstrates my ability to adapt a central visual identity into multiple formats—from large-scale merchandising to small-scale retail displays—without losing impact or clarity.

At just 24 years old and fresh out of school in 2021, I was entrusted with leading the visual merchandising for FWD Champions Day. Thanks to the support and guidance of my senior designer and the HKJC team, I was able to handle this large-scale project—from communicating with clients and printers to working closely with event teams on-site.

This was a strong and fun project that challenged me to grow quickly, and it has been incredibly rewarding to see the merchandising designs I created still being reused and displayed for FWD Champions Day up to 2025.
